Eco Park Stadium – first all-wood and eco-friendly stadium

Eco Park Stadium – first all-wood and eco-friendly stadium

Eco Park Stadium is the last project of the famous architect Zaha Hadid, who died in March 2016, will be unveiled in England.
Forest Green Rovers is a football club of the fifth division of the English league which has always put eco-friendly policy forward and which is known for being the first vegan team in the world. Eco Park Stadium designed by Zaha Hadid Architects will be built almost entirely of wood, it will have the lowest carbon content in the world and will generate its own renewable energy on site.
Jim Heverin, Director at ZHA, said: “We are very proud to be selected to design the new home for Forest Green Rovers that will not only be a new stadium but also an important addition for the community with recreational and professional areas. The club’s heritage, ambition and vision reflect our own, combining the latest material research and construction techniques with new design approaches to build a more ecologically sustainable, dynamic and inclusive architecture.”
A transparent membrane will cover the roof of Eco Park Stadium. This will contribute to turf growth on the pitch, minimize stark shadows for players and fans, and reduce the volumetric impact of the stadium from distant views in the surrounding landscape.
The arena has been designed to allow for future expansion of the club. Initially it will be constructed for 5,000 spectators, increasing this number to 10,000 spectators depending on the club’s success. This expansion can be achieved without additional expenses to the main construction works.
The cost of devepolment makes up approximately 100 million pounds. It will cover an area of 100 acres in the county of Gloucestershire and include training pitches, sports facilities, and a sports science hub.
